Kenya’s parks are run by the Kenya Wildlife Service and its reserves, the Masai Mara among them, by counties, and this catalogue covers the former. The Rift Valley adds Lake Nakuru, for rhinos and, when the water suits them, flamingos, and the crater of Mount Longonot, climbed in a morning. Aberdare and Mount Kenya are highland forest and moorland, the latter a multi-day trek to Point Lenana. On the coast, Watamu and Kisite-Mpunguti are marine parks visited by dhow for snorkelling and dolphins.

Fees are paid cashlessly and differ between premium and other parks; tours normally include them. The dry seasons, late June to October and January to February, are the time to go; the long rains in April and May close some tracks and halve the prices.
