National parks near Dar es Salaam

Dar es Salaam is the gateway to Tanzania's coast and south. Saadani, where the bush reaches the beach, is three to four hours north; Mikumi, on the highway to the south-west, is five hours by road and the usual two-day safari from the city. Zanzibar's Jozani forest, with its red colobus monkeys, is a ferry or a short flight away. Nyerere National Park is reached by light aircraft in forty-five minutes.
