Serbia’s parks are little known abroad and inexpensive to visit. Tara, in the west, is a forested plateau cut by the Drina canyon, with the Banjska Stena viewpoint over Lake Perucac, the endemic Serbian spruce and one of the larger brown bear populations in the Balkans; the much-photographed house on a rock in the Drina is nearby. The Uvac reserve, further south, is known for the entrenched meanders of its river, seen by boat and from the Molitva lookout, and for a griffon vulture colony brought back from near extinction.
