National parks near Vilnius

Vilnius is half an hour from Trakai, the island castle on Lake Galve and the centre of a historical national park, by train, bus or tour. Aukstaitija, the land of lakes and old wooden villages, is ninety minutes north and ideal for canoeing. Braslaw Lakes, in Belarus, and Poland's Biebrza and Bialowieza fall within the radius, though the Belarusian border is largely closed at present.
