Canada's largest national park is Wood Buffalo, 44,800 square kilometres of boreal plain on the border of Alberta and the Northwest Territories, larger than Switzerland, with the world's largest free-roaming bison herd and the biggest beaver dam known. Quttinirpaaq on Ellesmere Island, Nahanni and Kluane follow, all northern wilderness. Jasper, at almost 11,000 square kilometres, is the largest park in the Rockies and the largest with a town inside it.
