Oldest national parks in Canada
Banff began in 1885 as a reserve of twenty-six square kilometres around hot springs found by three railway workers, and became Rocky Mountains Park two years later, the third national park in the world. Yoho and Glacier were reserved in 1886 along the same Canadian Pacific line, Waterton Lakes in 1895 and Jasper in 1907. In 1911 Canada created the Dominion Parks Branch, the first national park service anywhere.
