Europe's smallest protected areas in the catalogue are mostly Mediterranean: the islet of Sa Dragonera off Mallorca, the headland of Porto Venere, the coves of Mondrago and the Portofino promontory, with Cape Greco in Cyprus and the Llogara pass in Albania. They are places for a morning's walk and a swim rather than an expedition, and nearly all lie close to a resort coast, which is why they matter: they are the last undeveloped pieces of it.
